The name "conferta" means crowded, referring to the densely-packed flowers on each inflorescence. B. conferta grows into large shrubs about 12', with 4", dark green foliage and rough, grey bark. The cylindrical flower heads are about 7" long and 2 1/2" wide, beginning as yellowish-green buds, and opening bright gold.

Grow in full sun, in a well-drained, even rocky situation. Can be pruned to keep the shrubs tidy. Hardy zones 9+.
