Native to Northern California and Oregon, this is perhaps the most beautiful of the American native carnivorous plants. Tall, stately stems grow to over 3 feet high(generally less in cultivation) and have large, swollen, Cobra-like heads, that have transparent windows which help to keep the captured insects inside the traps. Forked tongues appear to come out of the mouth of the trap, which are bright reddish green and are covered with nectar to lure the unwitting victims. With time, Darlingtonias will make tremendous colonies.

We must say that Cobra Lilies have the reputation for being difficult in cultivation - which is quite accurate, yet certainly not impossible. Attention to their requirements will bring you success: they must have cool to intermediate temperatures in very bright light (for best color), and they do not take kindly to hot, dry weather, or stagnant conditions. The roots must always remain cool and be standing in good water - distilled, rain, RO, etc.

We ship vigorous, established, young divisions of mature plants in 3 1/4" pots or bareroot. When ordered bareroot, we are able to ship slightly larger plants!

(Please note: in mid-fall to mid-spring our plants may be shipped in various states of dormancy.)
