Quite a few years back, a friend gave me one of these for Christmas, and I found it quite amusing. All I could think was, "I just got a "Stick" for Christmas!" (I guess it's better than coal.) Well, I followed the directions and, lo and behold, it worked. By mounting the stick in a protected, outdoor location, when it is hot and sunny out, the stick will point upwards; when the weather is average, the stick will be straight out; when it's pouring outside, it will be pointing dramatically downwards. Amazing and fun. It really works! This is a very popular item which makes a great stocking stuffer or party favor, and it's definitely a conversation piece! Great for kids from 10 to 110+. [These weather sticks are made from Balsam Fir saplings that are growing among commercial Sugar Maples. Maples are now tapped with plastic pipes that run to a main collection area, rather than small pipes dripping into buckets hanging off individual trees. The Fir saplings shade theses pipes and block the sun from shining on them and melting the Maple sap, preventing the flow through the pipes and the collection. Therefore, removal of the Fir saplings is beneficial.] |
