Abutilon megapotamicum
A fine Flowering Maple (not a Maple at all - it's a Hollyhock relative) with pendant "Chinese Lantern" flowers from early spring until frost. The bright and cheery 2" blooms are bright yellow, which contrast nicely with the balloon-like red calyxes. The growth is graceful and arching with bright green, maple-like foliage. May grow to 8' tall and wide, but may be pruned to keep to your desired size. (Please note that when grown in pots or hanging containers, the leaves will take on yellow variegation - this is normal. In the ground, the leaves will be solid green.) Hardy zones 8-10. (Protect from hard frost.) If frozen to the ground, it will generally resprout from the roots.
Grow in part shade (full sun in cool climates) in loamy soil.
We ship small, blooming-size plants in 4" pots.
