 Truly one of the most charming of all proteas! Growing to a compact 3' tall and wide, it's known as the "Mountain or Shy Rose", with dense branches of needle-like leaves and, from mid-winter to late spring, beautiful, small, pendulous, wine-red flowers. This South African native is known as the "Cape Sugar Bush". Bright 4-inch, chalice-shaped "lacquered" blooms of cream and red are born on tall bushes, which may become 10' tall and wide.  Strawberry Everlasting Seeds
(Asteraceae - Helichrysum) This is a spectacular and truly fabulous South African shrub to 5-feet, with thick, felted, silvery leaves and, in summer, bright red strawflowers with intense golden orange stamens protruding. (Makes a great cutflower.) To be honest, the shrub itself is somewhat awkward - mainly, a single stalk with only a few side branches - but the downy texture and color of the foliage, combined with the amazing, relatively long-lasting flower clusters is hard to beat!
